This "pate" is an amazing plant-based alternative to the real pate or other unhealthy dips or spreads. It is hearty, satisfying, delicious and filling. It's also full of good stuff like omega-3s, they promote anti-inflammation, heart and brain healthy properties, etc. etc. They also will help fill you up AND satisfy you. 

The recipe calls for liquid aminos but if you can't find that or don't have it, no sweat - just use tamari sauce (or even plain sea salt).

Ingredients

1. 2 cups raw walnuts
2. 1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes (if dry, pre-soak for 15 minutes in hot water) 

3. 1/4 cup olive oil

4. 1 tsp Liquid Aminos (or tamari sauce or sea salt, to taste)
5. 1 tsp onion powder
6. 1 tsp garlic powder
7. 2 TB basil
8. 1/2 tsp cumin

9. 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Measure and assemble all ingredients in the food processor. 

  2. Pulse until well-combined to your preferred texture. (I like mine a bit rougher than hummus texture.)

Would you believe me if I told you that if you eat a healthy, balanced breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up that your day will be completely changed? You will feel more balanced with less hunger and cravings. It’s true – all you need are healthy leptin levels!

What is leptin? It is a hormone that was only just discovered in 1994. Per WebMD and Dr. Robert Lustig, leptin is our body’s starvation hormone and “...is the way your fat cells tell your brain that your energy thermostat is set right.” It is good to reset leptin every morning in order to avoid unhealthy cravings and excess hunger.

I have a bigger appetite in the first part of the day and less in the afternoon/evening. In the past, I’d have breakfast (typically a fruit and veg smoothie) and would be hungry – starving – by 10 AM. When lunch arrived, I would ditch the healthier choice and go in search for something not optimal. Any of this sound familiar?

Turmeric has been the “It Girl” of the superfood party scene the last few years due to its amazing ability to decrease inflammation along with many other things. It will not only help with inflammation but aid in repairing existing free radical damage. It is also great for increasing the anti-oxidants in the body to help protect from free radicals. 

I didn’t  know that turmeric root existed (duh!) until I moved to the Middle East in 2014 and mistook it for ginger root in the market. Now, I am a huge fan and try to incorporate it into our diet on a regular basis. 

I find that fresh turmeric root is not only wonderfully aromatic but also doesn't have that bitter, coppery taste like the powder. Putting it in smoothies definitely adds a distinct flavor, but it's really wonderful. This smoothie is so refreshing and will give your energy to move through your day like a superstar.
