When I have a hankering for a sweet, I try to prepare my own dessert as it truly helps for so many reasons.
When you have to prepare your own food, you are prone to create something super elaborate and/or unhealthy. It has to do with the delayed gratification that seems to help cut down on the craving. In my case, when am the one to put it all together AND clean up the mess, I will either not make it or potentially simplify to something else.
Additionally, when you prepare your own food you visually witness how much sugar, butter, oil, salt, etc. is going into the finished product and I also believe that must help the brain to register portion control. (This is a non-scientific assumption on my part, by the way!)
