What's the Inspiration Equation?

Inspiration.

 

It is such a buzz word.

 

I am inspired. You inspire me. That was so inspirational.

 

What exactly is inspiration?

 

For me, inspiration is linked to motivation and action. If I am motivated and ready for action, then it translates into inspiration. Not sure how precisely the math works - inspiration + action = motivation or is it action + motivation = inspiration or ...? Either way, speaking for myself, these are the components to my personal inspiration equation.

 

What happens when there is no inspiration? Does it mean that also action and motivation are gone? If they are all three missing - what is the status?

 

Recently, I’ve felt myself without a lot of inspiration for things in life that I truly enjoy so much so that I make the time for them on a regular basis. Such as cooking, working out, practicing yoga, etc. I don’t want to call this a slump because I’ve been firing in so many other areas in my life such as this whole entrepreneurial gig and I have not totally sucked as a mom (says I!).

 

The other question I have been pondering is, how do you find that inspiration again? Do you fire on one of the parts of the equation? For instance, if I take action will inspiration and motivation kick back in? I dunno.

 

What I’ve done this time around is honor the lack of inspiration. Instead of worrying about it or stressing over it, I’ve just let it be. Of course, it’s not great to say that I have not been to the gym in 2 weeks (I think?) but I have been walking and riding my bike. I have not been cooking any amazing vegan meals lately but the family has enjoyed more pasta with veg, more cut up raw veg with hummus, etc. In the end, not all went to pot with this shift in energy.

 

This is a new thing for me as in the past I would have stressed out so much and literally given myself a major a$$-kicking … we are our own worst critic, right? And, of course, if I am not perfect, then it’s all a mess. Nope, this time I let myself take the time and work on other areas of my life and enjoy the return of {organic, non-GMO - lol} popcorn for dinner a few days here and there. I am learning that not everything needs to be fixed. I guess some things are fine as is and if it’s happening then there is a reason for it.

 

Funnily enough, things are on the uptick. I’ve been cooking a few meals, rolled out the yoga mat and even will head back to the gym. It was not the end of the world and seemed to serve it’s purpose, whatever it was.

 

What do you do when you lack inspiration? How do you deal with it - if at all?
